For this class, we have been assignment a few assignments of discussing how we see sociology. This is the first assignment that we worked on.
1. Of the three theoretical perspectives, which one would you prefer to use if you were a sociologist and why?
- Conflict Theory, I worked hard for where I am today, so did my family. In the future, I will probably go through the same thing for my children to have a good life in education and their careers. If someone who is more “powerful” than me for is wealthier, they probably didn’t have any flaws when they arrived in the same position as me. It’s a cycle that gets passed on to generation to the next
2. What is the difference between good and bad sociological research? How can biases be avoided?
- A sociologist has to make a good argument if they want to prove something. If someone were just to say something about clothing or how people act these days, they person needs facts or real theories in order to give his argument. It has to be tested to see if it can affect the social life. If not, then it’s just an opinion.
3. What two agents of socialization have influenced you the most? Can you pinpoint their influences on your attitudes beliefs, values or other orientations to life?
- Family: Every child growing up gets examples from their family; how they behave, feel, control and live. I grew up with a loving family. I learn how to behave with others, feel about myself, control my actions and live a good life from my parents. Parents have to be a good example to their children.
- School: Education is very important and it’s important for your social life. I say this because school is the first place you go to learn (besides learning at home) and meet new people. As you learn in school, you become more social with others, like playing games, hanging out, talking and dating.
4. Are you a member of any subcultures? Which one(s)? Why do you think that your group is a subculture and not a counter culture?
- I guess I would land in the Fandom group. Basically we are fans. Like Star Wars, Harry Potter, Comics (superheroes) and movies. Most of these people meet at conventions. It’s a subculture because these people are just fanboys/fangirls. We all love fictional things and have friendly arguments and not afraid to show it to the public. We are also nicked named Geeks and Nerds, even though they are completely different people and the people in fandom.
