CARDIO FITNESS - HLAC 1000
Nearing the end of my community college life, I finally decided to take a fitness class. I am not the type of person that exercises a lot, but I hope to get a good start to getting myself fit. At first I didn't know what class I wanted to take. There were great choices like weightlifting and sports, but with a tough schedule, I had to figure out if I would have the time to take a fitness class. That is one of my biggest problems for not exercising. Time. It is common to a lot of people that they don't have a lot of time to work out and do other important things at the same time. As a young college student with two jobs and struggling in math, I didn't even want to put in time to work out. I felt like I didn't need it. With stress building up inside of me, taking a fitness class had to come sooner. Having to make more time to add my already busy schedule, I signed up for a basic cardio class to get a good start in getting fit and calming my stress. My goal was to lose at least 5 pounds before midterm. I didn’t believe it was going to be hard, but that only way it would be hard if I were to be lazy and if I wasn't eating right.
At first I thought this class would be graded on only on attendance, but that was not how it worked. We were also graded on tests. The first test was a treadmill run test. The goal was to run a mile and a half and timing yourself. Cardiovascular exercise involves a lot of walking and running. It helps you with your heart rate. I had no problem walking or running to build my heart rate. My problem was my right leg. When I was younger, I sustained an injury during a soccer incident that I played in. My knee would make it harder to run for long distance and hard to walk up hills. I didn't want to fail a fitness class because of an excuse for an injury. I accepted the challenge and took the test. Going as hard as I could, I managed to finish the test in under ten minutes, which was really good. I was surprised on how well I did. My knee didn't give out and it was a great accomplishment.
On regular days of class, we would do our own thing when it's time to work out. I would always stick to the elliptical machine, it helps out with my knee pain. My goal every days was to burn as much calories as I possibly can. The elliptical was a good machine to burn calories and lose weight and it can make you sweaty, much faster than a treadmill. Doing my best every day, I would always burn over 300 calories. My goal was to beat every personal record I get. One day I burn 300 calories, the next I burn 350, then 400. My best performance was boring 589 calories in 45 minutes, my personal best.
By the time midterm came, we were once again given the mile and half test on the treadmill. My stamina was higher than before, and knowing that my time before was under ten minutes, I had no problem being my time. While taking the test, all was good until my knee started to react to the pain. It began to hurt that I was forced to slow down the speed on the treadmill. This made me finish the test in eighteen minutes. I was now below average, which was a fail. However, I did accomplish something. My first goal was to lose at least 5 pounds before midterm. As I weighed myself that day, I noticed that I had lost 6 pounds. It was great goal achievement and wasn't going to waste it.
If you're trying to get fit, you need to eat right. I used an app called, Mealime. This app gave me good eating options and recipes for me to cook. I always have bad eating habits. Going out and by food from a restaurant was what I called dinner. I was too lazy to cook on my own and there was nothing to eat in my fridge (even though it was full but I didn't like anything in there). This app gave me daily food to eat from meats, vegetables and good breakfast meals to eat before a workout. If you want to know how many calories you are eating, the app lets you know not only the calories, but grams of fat and possible sugars. This officially made me quit drinking soda and eating at fast foods as this app dose not recommend them, AT ALL. Throughout the semester, I have used this app to prevent me from gaining more weight. If I were to take other fitness classes, Mealime is the best option to eating healthy and staying in shape.
When I first signed up for this cardio class, I didn't think I was going to have what it would take to even exercise. The progress I went through for this class was great. Everyday cardio became easier for me both inside and outside the gym. My endurance kept telling to keep going little by little, and I didn't disappoint. I learned a lot about cardiorespiratory from class. It's all about keeping it going. Moving you're body, moving the muscles, breathing in and out. The heart and the lungs are the key to having great endurance in cardio. If I were to do this more, I may have the power to run a full marathon.
Exercising is great to stay in shape, but in my opinion, cardio is the best version. It makes you want to do more, and that's what I want to do. Exercise more, and eating healthy. My dream body is not to have huge muscles like big wrestlers, but to look slim and look like an athlete.
